Hello friends! It’s a lovely cool, dull day here. Fall seems to be in the air for the first full day of Autumn. The kids have been in school for a couple of weeks now, so of course that means inevitably someone is home sick with a cold. Last week was my younger daughter; this week, my older daughter. I knew I should have stocked up on tissues!
Except for the fact that Fall brings colds and sore throats and sniffles, this is my favourite time of the year. I know that may come as a shock to some of you since I’m almost always wearing a sweater. But at least now I don’t look out of place! Ha!! September always seems like a time of new beginnings for me. The kids are back at school for another year of learning, and young adults are off on a new adventure of learning after high school. This time of year I feel like I need to learn something new. A new learning adventure for me! If University were free, I’m sure I would take distance education courses every fall! Why just yesterday I learned of the term “BOOKTUBERS”!! Theses are people who read and/or review books and share their thoughts on Youtube. Sounds like my dream job. Read books and drink coffee all day, then talk about these books while drinking more coffee. Hmm…..
The Road Not Taken
Last week I was looking through my photos to post one on Instagram and decided on the one at the top of this post. You can just barely see the path through the trees. The poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost immediately came to mind. The first verse:
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth;
There are so many paths we take in life. Many different roads to choose from. Sometimes, along the way, we think we may have chosen the wrong one. But there is always another road ahead. Sometimes you have time to choose both (see photo below). We were out for a drive and knew that the distances both ways were short; so first we went right and then we came back and went the other way.
Some choices are easier to make than others because the consequences aren’t as big. Such as stopping at that new coffee shop instead of your usual place. Some paths are easier to see the end; you know the outcome. Maybe the path to a healthier you. Some are tougher, but worth it in the end (like the hike I went on below).
So many paths, so many choices, so many roads.
- Where to go to post secondary school
- Moving to a new city, or country even
- Making a career change
- Which restaurant to eat at
- Boxers or Briefs(okay, so that’s not a choice I have to ever make. LOL) Just wanted to see if you were paying attention!
And sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees!!
CHOOSE YOUR OWN PATH
I remember reading those choose your own path adventure books when I was a kid. You know, the ones where you read so far and then you have a choice of two paths to take which will change the outcome of the story for you. I loved those books!! But of course I did things a little different. LOL I would read though the book and choose the paths throughout to get to the end. BUT, then I would go back and start over and choose a different path each time.
Remember, when you can’t go back, there is always a road ahead. Always. You just may have to do some searching to find it. And sometimes the path may already be chosen for you. But if you have a choice…which path will you choose?
As always, thanks for stopping by to check out the view from where I am…
