As someone who spends entirely too much time on the internet; this week’s blog post is based on a Twitter quote I read earlier this week. It reminded me how precious life is. So much time is spent at work/chores, errands, tv, internet, etc. We sometimes forget to spend time with the ones love. I mean, really spend time with them. We think; we can go there sometime or we can do that sometime. It reminded me that there are places I would like to visit, things I would like to do, and pictures I would like to take. All while spending time with my family. There are places here in my own province that I haven’t seen in years or have yet to visit at all. I’m not going to go into financial “stuff,” but since the provincial budget was brought down here last month, the cost of living is going up. A lot. Next week that will include the price of gasoline. That means that we will be sticking pretty close to home this summer.
Living in a rural area, close to home means travelling up two hours ( and many times longer) to get to where we want to go. In the fall of 2012 we purchased a 21 foot travel trailer. It was the biggest we could get without having to sell our SUV and buy a truck. We have left it parked about 90 minutes away next to a relatives cabin in a very beautiful area, instead of keeping it by our house near the salt water. Nothing but nature and cabins, with the comforts of electricity and water. We packed up and went there last weekend for a night, as it was (here in Newfoundland) the official start of camping season. Why did we only spend one night camping, you may ask? Well, that is a funny story. Back in February I found out that James Taylor (see picture above) was coming to a city near us. I love his music so I decided to get tickets for myself and my husband. For some reason I didn’t bother checking the date until after I had purchased the tickets. I just knew that I had chosen a Saturday night in May. That Saturday just happened to be on the first long weekend of the camping season. It all worked out in the end though. My husband and I went out to supper and had front row seats to the concert, which ended up being by the stage for the last two or three songs! Then we went camping for two days/one night and we all had a wonderful time.
So; this week we started a list of things to do and places to see (besides camping) for when the kids start their summer holidays at the end of June. We probably won’t get them all done because my husband and I both work and can only get so much time off in the summer. But we both have weekends off. Some things/places on our list are:
- The Rooms
- The Johnson Geo Centre
- Signal Hill, Cape Spear
- Skerwink Trail
- Twillingate/Fogo Island
- Finding Dory movie
- and so on.
I am having no trouble finding things that can occupy our kids without the internet. Do any of you have plans for spring, summer or fall; or anytime in the near future? I’d love to hear about it! Thank you for coming back and reading all the way to the end of my very second blog post. Some new photos have been added to my images page. Feel free to check them out. I hope you enjoyed the view from where I am……
Oh my goodness Shelly, I had no idea you were into blogging. I’ve been currently working on mine for the past few months but it’s not finalized yet.Thrilled to know someone else I know personally is doing this. Especially a family member !
Your site is amazing. The way you describe everything just adds so much more to all of your photography.
Keep up the amazing work.
