5 Things That Help Me Find Some Christmas Spirit…

Hello friends.  I’m sure (well I hope) that you have been wondering whatever has happened to me. Sometimes life just gets in the way. Least of all was a hamster escaping; days, weeks spent searching! But she seems to have vanished off the planet!  Some other things I cannot go into here at this time.

And then you start to procrastinate; and procrastinate some more.  I have been getting pretty good at it too.  I have been working my day job, which is busy this time of year.  I have been raising kids, and a husband.  LOL  And then, just like that; Christmas is coming!  I have made a list and checked it twice.  More like three or four times.  I think I have 99.9% of my Christmas shopping done, which means it time for wrapping!. Hopefully this week we will get the Christmas tree up and decorated to get the Christmas spirit around our house.   Here are 5 things that help get me into a Christmas state of mind…

THE CHRISTMAS TREE>>>  The Christmas tree I think is self explanatory.  It’s one of the biggest parts of Christmas.  Doesn’t matter if it’s Charlie Brown sized or ten or more feet tall. Decorated with fancy store bought ribbons and bulbs with hundreds of lights or adorned with a single string of lights (or no lights) and homemade trimmings.  Once ours is up and decorated, I can stare at it for hours.  Especially at night when it is lit up!

CHRISTMAS MOVIES>>>  I have also been watching Christmas movies.  Some of my favourites I have already watched are some of The Santa Clause movies, The Polar Express and Christmas With The Kranks.  Christmas won’t be complete until I watch National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, You’ve Got Mail(my most favourite movie ever) and of course A Christmas Carol.  The 1951 version starring Alastair Sim.

CHRISTMAS MUSIC>>>  Oh yes!  Something else I love about Christmas…the music!!  Last week we attended our girls’ school Christmas concert.  Nothing puts you in the Christmas spirit like listening to kids from Kindergarten to Grade 12 pouring out their voices in song and play. There was the cutest little Kindergartener (not my kid) who sang  Santa Claus is Coming to Town. You could tell the kids had practiced and practiced and worked so hard to put this concert off. And of course the teachers too.  Our small school has been blessed with the most wonderful music teachers.

SNOW>>>  It looks like we will have a white Christmas this year!  We had snow on Friday and there’s more on the way this week!  A bit of a snow storm today actually!  I mostly enjoy sitting inside drinking a hot beverage (coffee of course) and looking out the window at it.  Although I hope to get my wimpy self outside more this winter and take a few pictures.

CHRISTMAS CARDS>>>  I love giving and receiving Christmas cards.  I don’t send out as many as I used to but I try to make sure family and friends that we don’t see very often get one.  It feels good to let someone know you are thinking of them.

I don’t do a lot of Christmas baking.  Mostly because I’m the one who ends up who ends up eating it!  But I’m going to try a recipe for “Crock Pot Candy” that I found on Facebook. Hopefully it turns out as yummy as it seems!  You just may see a picture of it in my next blog post.

Okay, how many times did I say the word “Christmas” in this blog post?  Haha!  So what about you?  What helps you find the Christmas spirit?  Please share by commenting below.  And just a word of warning….  My next blog post, or two, may contain many Christmassy photos.  I apologize in advance.  So, that’s the view from where I am…
